This projects will launch “Houghton Street Market”, a classifieds website for LSE students and staff exclusively.
The purpose of the website is to help students exchange their old and unwanted items (such as furniture, stationary, textbooks and clothes) at any time during the year, effectively extending the service of the Re-Love Fair, and digitalizing it. Members (anyone with an LSE email address) will be able to sell, swap or give away items using a classified advert on the site. The adverts will be kept simple, consisting of a description, uploaded photos and contact details. The website concept is similar to that of other classifieds sites such as GumTree, Craigslist or Etsy.
The goal is to reduce waste, promote awareness of the value of reusing items and creating a community of LSE staff and students that seeks to exchange items. Creating such an online space will promote the re-using and sharing behaviour within the culture of LSE, spreading the idea of social sharing at LSE and beyond.
